Weddings

bride and groomExperience the unique ambiance of the Grand Foyer with its soaring walls of Ontario Limestone, repurposed 19th-century barn timbers, dramatic skylights, and the charming setting of Doon Heritage Village. This fabulous space accommodates 150 people for a sit-down dinner or 250 people for a stand-up reception.

The Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum has exclusive caterers who can meet your every need, from a casual reception with bar service, to a gourmet plated dinner.

The Freeport Church is an historic location for your ceremony. It has a capacity of 100 people and features the unique ambiance of a 19th century church. The church is Ideal for weddings, holy unions, and commitment ceremonies. Rental of the church includes a one hour rehearsal time.

The Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum also features breathtaking views that are the perfect backdrop for photographs. When reserving your ceremony or reception, you and your wedding party may have access to Doon Heritage Village, offering maintained gardens, a covered bridge and historical buildings. Wedding parties are not permitted to take pictures inside historic buildings, or obstruct accessibility to any of the buildings. Note wedding photography is restricted to weddings taking place onsite.

Christie® Theatre
christie digital theatreA 114-seat theatre adjacent to the beautiful Grand Foyer of the Waterloo Region Museum. The Christie Digital Theatre is ideal for special events that could include film festivals, lectures, and concerts. 
Freeport Church
freeport churchThe Freeport Church is available for weddings, holy unions, and commitment ceremonies. Capacity of the Freeport Church is 100 people. The historic church features an antique pump organ, operating church bell, and historic oil lamps.
Meeting Room - Classroom A
Classroom AThe Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum features two versatile meeting rooms that are ideal for business or community meetings. The largest of the meeting rooms can accommodate up to 100 people depending on room set-up. Both classrooms feature retractable whiteboard walls that open to create bigger rooms when classrooms are used together.
Meeting Room - Classroom B 
Classroom BThe museum also features a smaller room called Classroom B that is ideal for smaller groups of up to 20 people depending on room setup. Both classrooms feature windows that looks into the picturesque setting of Doon Heritage Village.
Museum Building Grand Foyer
grand foyerThe Grand Foyer is a magnificent space with seating for up to 300 theatre style, or up to 150 for a seated dinner. The Grand Foyer features soaring walls of Ontario limestone and re-purposed barn timbers from a 19th century Waterloo Region barn that create an amazing and unique ambience for any special event.

colour wallFacility Rental Guidelines

Renting rooms in the facility for a private function does not secure exclusive use of the facility; only the space rented. Activities shall not interfere with normal public operation of the museum and must be consistent with the museum's mission as an educational and cultural institution. Museum exhibitions, collections, and furnishings may not be altered or removed. Waterloo Region Museum reserves the right to waive or modify the stated guidelines.

Due to the large number of requests that we receive from people who would like to take engagement and wedding photographs at the museum and village - each with their own unique requirements - we limit access for this type of photography to those people who have chosen to have their marriage and/or reception here.
